Kaplan Thompson Architects has been awarded an AIA Maine Design Award for its work on West End Apartments, an Avesta Housing affordable housing development for all ages in South Portland.

“We value the effort and thought taken into consideration to create a dignified design for affordable housing,” the awards jury noted in its remarks. “The creative use and deployment of inexpensive materials creates a rich texture on the exterior. The details of the windows and articulation on the facade are successfully executed.”

Fifty-six nominations were submitted for the award, of which 19 were selected
