Lewiston breaks ground for government-financed affordable housing project

Lewiston’s next, large affordable housing project is underway – a partnership among federal, state, and local governments and the private sector.

Governor Janet Mills, along with Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, attended the groundbreaking for Wedgewood on Monday.

There will be nine apartment buildings — eight new ones and one old one renovated — in the Trees Streets neighborhood.

In all, 82 new apartments will be produced, with rents for 60 units set as “affordable,” tied to low-and-medium incomes, and 22 units rented at market rates.

Construction is expected to take two years.
